AN EXAMPLE IN PRACTICE
A student is learning fractions and cannot explain why two pieces can equal one half.
- The teacher chooses reviewed examples and asks the assistant for several ways to explain equivalent fractions.
- The student uses a drawing or physical pieces, describes the pattern and checks the explanation with the teacher.
- The student solves a fresh problem and explains it without generated answers.
